Monthly charts
In the past month, the RumX community shared 6,050 tasting notes and added 5,824 bottles to their collections. Moreover, with the help of the community, 291 new rums were added to the database.
Most tasted rums in October 2022
The most tasted rum in October was… drum roll please… the same as the one in September, the Saint James Les Ephémères N°1 2001. Obviously Saint James new series of releases called “Les Ephémères” has gained popularity within the RumX community - also the second release of the series, Saint James Les Ephémères N°7 from vintage 2007 landed among the top-tasted rums this month. On top of that, both releases were rated pretty high with average scores of 89 (2001 vintage) and 86 (2007 vintage) respectively.
Bottle splits play an important part for the number of tastings as well - last not least the one organized in our forum which even required a second bottle to be opened to meet all sample requests… thanks for organizing the split and kudos to Saint James for selecting these two gems!
Rank number 3 is taken by Swell de Spirits with their T.D.L. Private Garden Clos de Spiritueux 2000. Quality-wise this one was even considered one of the top bottlings released recently, scoring an impressive average rating of 90 points from the RumX community (and if you remember our September stats, this one was the most purchased rum back then - so seemingly quite some bottles were opened and tasted shortly after the purchase).
With ranks 4 and 5 being taken by releases by Velier and Plantation, also two really big names in the rum world are represented in October’s most tasted rum list.

Most added to the collection in October 2022
This category was still called “Most purchased” last month and we’ve received some valid questions on how this ranking is actually derived. Since the list is based on rum bottles that were added to private collections in the past month, we felt a name change might be appropriate - even though this should give an indication of which rums were most purchased recently as well. But let’s not get too academic about wording but jump straight into our top 10 in October!
The pole position again goes to Saint James with their Saint James Les Ephémères N°7. Given its top positions in both the most tasted and most added list in October, it seems that this rum attracts both rum lovers and collectors. This is also shown by our community stats: Even though this bottle belongs to the most tasted rums in the past month and was only released very recently, the number of bottles added to the community’s collections is more than three times as high as the number of (public) tasting notes.
The second spot is taken by one of our highlights from this year’s German Rum Festival in Berlin, the Depaz 2010 Private Cask 11 59,7% selected by Dirk Becker for his Spirit of Rum series. Also this rum was perceived very positively by our community and scored a whopping 89 points rating.
And also rank number three is listed in both of our rum top lists for this month - Velier’s Cambridge STCE 2010 was initially opened up for the global rum community at Whisky Live in Paris and obviously gained its well-deserved fame, resulting in lots of purchases among the RumX community as well.

Most popular tasting locations
Now that we know which rums rose to fame in October, where did we actually see the most tastings happening? One thing is for sure: Our Danish community was on fire in the past weeks! Five out of the ten top tasting locations in October are based in Denmark - wow, way to go!
Besides private tastings we also see that official tasting events are a popular occasion for our community to add tasting impressions - same goes for bars with carefully selected rum menus. And combining both is probably the best way to secure a top spot in not only the hearts of our community, but also in this wee little ranking here - just ask our friends over at the BIX Jazzclub in Stuttgart who finished as the third most popular tasting location in October!
Last not least we also saw that the rum fair season was still ongoing and had one of its annual highlights happening in Belgium with the Salon Du Rhum in Spa, where also quite some tastings were recorded. In case you still ask yourself “What is this whole location thingy actually about?” then go and check out our “What’s new in the app” post to learn more about how to add locations to your tastings!
