"Delicious specimen, with lots of caramel/honey and an ingenious roasted note of coffee and chocolate. Once you've identified the marzipan note, it runs right through! Also fruity in many ways (lychee/mango?), subtly sweet and very round. Goes down like oil 😋 For even more points, this rum would need more complexity, although I have to say that there are still some components that I can't quite put my finger on. You have to give this rum a few minutes to breathe. Compared to other Cihuatans, it stands out somewhat."

Nussiger und würziger als der Indigo, nicht so reif wie der Cinabrio. Gut süffig, aber nicht so rund wie der Rest der Range."

"#4246 09.09.2023 I got 6 secret samples from a friend as a blind tasting and that has been a lot of fun spread over two evenings. First off, the price to quality is pretty good. Once rested it's a fruity profile with nice spices and very light wood. The palate i light and I would have loved a higher ABV. The finish is medium long and also kind of light. The empty glass has some mineral and chocolate notes."

"Had this bottle on the shelf for a long time and someone wanted a sample so I opened it. Lots of herbs, slight bitterness. I like the apple notes and the slightly chocolaty finish. Update 5.5.24: Still a good drinkable rum, alcohol could be a bit better integrated at this strength. Recommended if you want to escape from the eternal Jamaica Guyana Trinidad pendulum to other flavor regions"

Overall, however, solid sfoff and probably the oldest single barrel from El Salvador to date! And in direct comparison to the predecessor definitely much better!"

"Vermutlich die 'Protovariante' des Indigo. Und als solche deutlich unreifer im Charakter. Volle Breitseite Schokolade in der Nase. Daneben findet sich Vanille, etwas Zimt und satte Eiche. Orangenschale und nicht gut, aber passabel eingebundener Alkohol. Riecht mir zu doll, geht stellenweise in Richtung Supermarkt-Süßrum. Geschmacklich dann ähnlich, wenn auch weniger süß als erwartet. Relativ dünn und sehr 'direkt' in den Aromen, wenig komplex. Zur puren Schokolade kommt aber erfreulicherweise noch mehr dazu. Zimt, Vanille, mehr Röstaromen und am deutlichsten Kaffee. Im Abgang dann Schärfe, allerdings zimtig und nicht alkoholisch. Finish sehr kurz. Wer Cihuatan Fan ist kann hier bedenkenlos die Reste zum Abverkaufspreis eintüten. Ansonsten eher zum Indigo greifen - der ist deutlich weiter entwickelt. Und besser. Nachtrag 1: im Direktvergleich mit dem Indigo zwar der klare Vorgänger, aber doch massiv unausgereifter. Sehr viel mehr Kanten, sehr viel plumper, sehr viel weniger amgenehm."
