T.D.L RA Trinidad Rum 2002

extremely horny fresh tdl! Menthol without end and some grapefruit peel

Update 01.03.2025: Habe die unten genannte Flasche im letzten Jahr aufgemacht und bin weiter ein großer Fan dieser Abfüllung. Heute ist der RA im 2002er Crosstastings mit dem RdL#2, dem RC und dem TWJ für Macau die mir vertraute Referenz. Wie ich diese Nase auf dem GRF2021 für einen spanischen TDO halten konnte, ist mir völlig unverständlich. Die Nase ist heute ein echter TDL Prototyp mit reichlich Minze und gelber Frucht. Würziger als meine alten Notes vermuten lassen. Im Mund habe ich ebenfalls mehr Frucht und weniger Minze erwartet. Aber auch hier volle Breitseite Pfirsich-Minz-Eistee mit der unten geschilderten Falernumnote. Der Abgang ist für einen TDL überraschend Adstringenz und ausgesprochen grün. Die herausragende Stellung in dem Batch konnte ich heute nicht bestätigen. Er ist zweifellos sehr gut und in viellerlei Hinsicht ein prototypischer TDL, aber gerade der RC ist ihm schon sehr ähnlich. -2 Original 21.12.2021: Auf dem Rumfest ist der an mir vorbei gerauscht. Zum Glück bekam ich ein Sample, jetzt habe ich eine Flasche. Danke, Chris! Die Nase ist fantastisch: Minze, Ingwer, Cola, Grapefruit - hat irgendwie was von Falernum. Der Mund überraschend intensive Balance aus Zitrus und Minze mit etwas Ingwer. Der Abgang ungewöhnlich, die Bitterstoffe sind sehr frisch und pflanzlich: Grüne Paprika, Pepperoni. Klasse Rum!

Hands down, a very top notch TDL bottling.

The 200 T.D.L. usually rocks! Lots of menthol, herbs and a hay note. Plus an unpleasant sour note. For my personal taste, the 2002 T.D.L. vintage always has strong outliers on the downside. This bottling is one of those.

Palate: Woody aromas and a mentholated edge dominate. This gives notes of black tea or mocha on a smoky, even earthy background. The fruit is present, but difficult to perceive; it will mainly show through once the menthol and woodiness have passed. Good length on the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated, but it's still over 63%, which is a hefty figure! You need to take your time to enjoy it. As for me, a small glass is enough for the whole evening...

Hier kommt an der Nase Initial auch einiges an würzigen Aromen rüber, dazu etwas Holz und auch gelbe Früchte. Am Gaumen dominieren dann auch würzige/röstige/bittere Aromen. Fruchtige Aromen kann ich hier nicht rausschmecken. Insgesamt ist er mir eine Spur zu bitter. Edit: Gefiel mir jetzt beim erneuten Probieren doch etwas besser.

Good rum with a lot of fruits, herbal notes and wood among others. However, alcohol burns a lot especially in mouth. Dilution could have been a good idea to make it more gentle.

First off, the price tag is really good for this release. Very fruity with some added workshop notes and nice wood. I like the intense and warm palate, the nice curtains and the long warm finish that stays for very long. The empty glass is really nice after a while.

Tar, Menthol, Earthy, trop. fruits (if you give it some time) and a dominant leather smell. Trinidad classic dirty with mint, menthol, tar ecc. in the mouth. With an amazing long dry, delicious minty finish with menthol, barrel, mocha… I like it a lot! Pleasant to drink! Alcohol is very well integrated, you won’t notice the 63% in your mouth

In direct comparison to the 2001 RA, somewhat less intense and somewhat fruitier.

Very tasty stuff with a wonderful combination of mint and menthol with grapefruit and grapefruit zest. Plus something earthy and a pleasant bitterness in the finish. I can't stop thinking about a fresh iced tea made from grapefruit and mint. delicious.

This is somewhat a poor man’s Caroni with minty notes. Extremely tasty 😋

An interesting mixture of fresh, dirty and fruity notes. Very intense and dry.

Sehr ausgewogener Vertreter mit klassischem TDL Profil, aber eher erdig mit leichtem Holz. Die typischen Mentholnoten sind weniger ausgeprägt als bei den 2001ern und im Direktvergleich mit dem letzten FRC 2009er schon fast zu zahm. Trotzdem super Abfüllung!
