"I was very lucky today. I stumbled upon this extremely rare bottle when picking up my latest samples and bottles. I was allowed to buy a sample, it set me back 90,- euro, but I didn't regret it. One of the best rums I have sampled in the last 30+ years. The nose is there from the start, a wonderful fruity, smoky vanilla mix. The palate was one og the most well balanced i have ever had, not too much or too little of anything. Wow, just wow. The finish lingers on what seems like forever...... 5 generations and 130+ years and this is what you get, PERFECTION! "

"14.12.2023 Retasting this one and it's still an amazing release. Despite the bottle being almost empty it has retained its beautiful flavour and balance. Would love one on my shelf but it's a bit expensive ☺️ ------------- This is a great rum with a long time in the barrel. Despite the age the wood is not super dominating and that makes this a very well balanced rum. The nose it lightly fruity and brown sugar with clear caramel right off the bat. After resting you get toasted wood and light coffee notes. The palate is very well balanced, oily and continues where the nose left off. Fruity with caramel in the front followed by nuts, chocolate, wonderful brown sugar and toasted wood. The finish is medium to long with spices, wood, cocoa and raisin. There is a light salty touch in the finish."

"This one is also a great vintage from Dictador and if you get a chance have a sample. The nose has peat, vanilla and the whisky barrel it was matured in. In the back there is a nice smoky oak note. The palate is complex and soft with spices and toffee in the front and smoky oak in the back. The finish is long and has spices and roasted oak to it. "

"8,5:On the nose, there are first noticed vanilla, fudge and butterscotch, but a character reminiscent of a superb, delicious Cognac as well with some dried figs and apricots, then pencil shavings and hints of damp earth. The rum is very complex. 8,8:On the palate it coats the tongue with an impressive array of different notes, an overlay of nutmeg on milk chocolate, toffee, prunes, coconut, sea-salt caramel and a beautiful softness without the sweetness, a very nicely combination. There is a rise on the mid-palate before it fades slowly into a silky vanilla oak spiciness. 8,5:The finish is pierced with vanilla, woodiness, pure rum character and raisins, some tobacco, cigar note."

"#4820 17.08.2024 Tasting with Mads from Romhatten. This one was in the bar after the tasting finished and we had a burger 😊 Nose Intense, fresh, fruity, mint, spice, light wood, faint smoke, faint caramel, banana, varnish. Palate Oily, medium intense, balanced, complex, wood, light roasted, varnish, mint, light caramel, faint smoke, light tobacco, light orange. Finish Long and warm, wood, mint, fruits, banana, light caramel, faint tar. ABV is very well integrated."

"One of the perks of having a huge collection of rums is that sometimes you get surprised. I sent a picture to the destillery of my Dictador collection and they mailed me a sample of this incredibly expensive release. One I would never have bought. The rum plays all the tingles in my nose and palate, but though very good it doesn't match the price. Wonderfully fruity and lots of spices. Sweet with smoky oak, yum. I love the handmade decanter they have designed for this special release. "

"I usually don't really like these sugared Spanish-style rums and I even doubt that the age statements of the Malteco rum-line can be trusted but the 'vintages' from them are very, very tasty and I like them a lot. Update: Now too thin for me, good daily sipper though."

"A great start to the tasting evening! Of course, this is unmistakably a Dominican, but an unusually strong one, without the alcohol being noticeable at all. A few drops of water make it even more accessible, with apricot and barrel notes in balance. Not my preferred style, but certainly drinkable and therefore recommended for special occasions - if you don't have to watch the pennies ... (bottle price now exorbitantly high)"

"Very round, if you want to give this attribute to the distillate's lack of expression. I am left with little more than astonishment that this product - which is undeniably pleasant to drink - was once described as the best of the best in the rum sector. Yes, this assessment is highly subjective; but if you take even half the aromatic complexity of other distillates as a criterion, this earlier classification seems hardly comprehensible. However: subjectively speaking, I think the distillate is overrated, but I don't begrudge anyone the pleasure that they individually associate with it."

Nose Wood, roasted, nutts, fruity, dried fruit, earthy, light sitrus. Palate Balance, sweet, wood, roasted, faint citrus, light chocolate, faint coffee, orange. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, light caramel, orange, light coffee, light chocolate."

"Considering the price for this bottle i was a bit disappointed, because the two master series usually delivers. The nose is sweet and fruity with honey, vanilla, chocolate and a touch of wine. The palate is also sweet with raisins, honey, chocolate, vanilla and wine as well as a touch of coffee and wood. The finish is medium long and sweet with dried fruit, chocolate and very light toffee. The empty glass will give even clearer notes after and hour or so."

"I love silver seal and this one is another great one I tried the other day at one of my suppliers. The nose is fruity with spices and I also get some roasted notes. The palate is fruity with spices and some nice pepper. Bitter chocolate honey and a nice shot of oak is there as well. The finish is long and warm lightly bitter with fruit and toasted oak. "

"Needs some time in the glass but then shows multilayered flavors that come together, I think, very elegant. He has quite a lot of force to which you have to get used briefly. Unusually, I find the quite present saltiness. A few drops of water I also find not wrong."

Meilleure critique de cigares :
"This rum perfumes the room when poured. Cedar wood (cigar box) dominates the nose, but bergamot and prunes are not far off. A real taste of roast completes this atypical nose. The palate is initially almost entirely woody (cedar), with some prune and dried fruit remaining and a roasted base, like cooled roast fat on the finish. Astonishing! The finish is long and citrus reappears at the very end. Phew! The empty glass is complex and much more balanced than the mouth. A highly aromatic and far from uninteresting rum, but too dominated by a too monolithic expression of wood for my taste."

"8,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is candied orange with sweetness, toasted marshmallow. Pancakes with flambeed fruits give a warm hello, while notes of vanilla back this up.Freshly roasted coffee, Irish chocolate cream jump into the scenery, as toasted malted brown bread smothered with raspberry jam after some airing with rhubarb notes and a hint of cardamom. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is soft and smooth with fruity notes of mandarine, orange peel and vanilla, a bit spicy with a hint of black pepper and sweet spices as cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg.Coffee is backed with ginger syrup, some black liquorice powder and a note of vanilla. Here again very tasty Irish chocolate cream shows up, as wood spices and rich red fruits after. 8,5:The finish is dry, chocolatey, spicy with ginger and oak spices, red fruits and liquorice, coffee notes..."

"Another high quality bottling out of the „vintage“ ECS range at a very good price point. Delivers the classic Foursquate notes at a high ABV (ie high intensity), providing a nice sipping experience. Side-by-side with the 2011 ECS, this one has more glue-y notes on the nose alongside the classic FS profile. Similar in the palate: more punch versus the 2011, ie a bit less balance and a little more demanding."

"This is a very rare bottle as only a limited number are released every year. Even though the ABV is low, the overall profile is very smooth and well balanced. Fruity with light wood and nuts. Love the velvety feel on the palate and the caramel in the profile. Wonder what barriers it would have broken at an ABV of 50+ % Price to quality is a bit off 😊"

"Once rested this becomes a pretty good release. Fruity and nutty with wood and very light roasted notes. I like the caramel in the profile because it's subtle but adds something to the profile. Balanced and oily on the palate and very nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass was amazing after an hour or so."

"Overall a great Foursquare ECS rum. Mr Richard Seale have done it again. I tasted it the Swedish importer’s, Lars Renbjer’s, stand at the Stockholm Beer & Spirits Fair 2023. Touchstone is a molasses based double-aged pot- and column blended rum aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Cognac casks for 14 years. It consists of two components. The first component, a 2008 ex-bourbon aged distillate which was filled in ten former Cognac Camus casks in 2020, then 12yo, to mature for almost 3 years more. The second component was aged for 5 years in ex-Bourbon casks and 9 more years in ex-Cognac casks."

"#4039 I have tried many of the two masters and they're usually pretty good but sweet and the price tag pretty hefty. This one is no different, sweet and fruity with nicely balanced ABV and a nice floral note in the back. Draws extremely nice curtains and the empty glass is really nice and I can get some licorice and pastries. If you're lucky you can find a bottle around 1000,- euro."

"06.10.2023 retasting between 2021 - 2022 - 2023 and it lost a few points. ------ What a wonderful rum. The base should be the same as the 50th anniversary but this one is more fruity and there are more esters in comparison. A great rum and the quality to price is very good. I was so lucky that they allowed me to buy two bottles :-) Enjoying this nice rum again and I stand by my score. Very good rum especially thinking about the price tag. Retasting this one today and I really like it. Good that I have several backup bottles."

"Whisky & Rom Festival 2023 28.10.2023 This is a retaste and I still like it a lot. Very mellow and well balanced. ------------------- This is a nice Port Mourant and I like the heavy nose with a lot of flavours being released after 15+ minutes of rest. Ester, coffee and herbs moving towards a medicinal nose. The palate is also kind of heavy with a floral touch, fruits and leather follows and still has a medicinal note. The finish is long and warm and you can clearly taste the sherry from the 5 year sherry cask finish."

"It is rare, far too rare, to discover a diamond among pebbles. And if it happens by chance, it's all the more incredible. But it actually happened with this rum! I'm still blown away. The rum already promises a lot on the nose and reminds me of an old Demerara. So tempting that I can't wait to taste it. Very fruity on the palate, overripe blackcurrants? The alcohol is more perfectly integrated than I have ever experienced with any other rum. The maximum has really been extracted from the 47% vol. The only small drawback: a slight lack of depth and intensity due to the low ABV. But such a small "impurity" is easy to get over with such a fine diamond, isn't it? Top rum under the radar. Update 2023-10-06: The rum remains a top product for me, but has found its champion in the Savoir Faire 2009 with 60% (RX2744). Update 2023-10-18: Tasting again against the RX2744, this time direct. And I have to say that a direct comparison is really enlightening - and doesn't end well for the Emotion 1969 ... It seems like the league leader of the 2nd division playing at the top level in its class against a Champions League team ... 🙄 Try it out and you'll find it confirmed. RumX Advent calendar 09.12.2023 (blind tasting) I wrote in the appropriate place before solving the puzzle: Yes, on the nose I'm also more with FS, although what's amazing here is that you really perceive zero alcohol! A completely different rum on the palate: Not warm-caramel like on the nose, but clearly red-fruity and a little spicy. And what do I always associate with red fruit? That's right, Mauritius! Since this rum is not an alcohol monster, but rather under 50% vol. I'm guessing RX2495. Of course, it could also be another New Grove from Grays with around 45% vol. as there are still a few around ... Or maybe even a TDL. In any case, I like the rum very much. :yum::yum::yum:"
