Was mich am meisten fasziniert ist, wie klar hier bei aller Vergleichbarkeit die Unterschiede zwischen Trinidad und Guyana Stock zum Tragen kommen - die Trinidad-Fässer bringen einen pointierten adstringierenden Charakter ein, der im ersten Moment schnell überfordernd wirken kann, de facto aber eine gänzlich andere Facette der 96er Caronis aufscheinen lässt und ein Feuerwerk an Aromatik eröffnet. An ideal entry-level rum into the high-quality world of tropically aged Caronis with a price-performance ratio that is no longer quite so easy to finance, but still relatively good for Caroni. Excellent."

Warm, long finish. An outstanding rum. Clearly in line with the series and one of the better ones. Its profile lies between 2003 (fruity) and 1999 (liquorice). Long tropical ageing without any lignification testifies to high craftsmanship. The music: the soundtrack by Dr.No."

"A sample tasted after the Caroni Velier 1983 52%. Totally different. Thanks Thomas for the sample. Here's a "real" Caroni as you'd expect, even stronger than expected. A powerful nose of incense, machine shop, fruit and cold ash. Intense and concentrated on the palate, with fruit above all and a finish dominated by noble bitterness. A Caroni for lovers of extreme rums. Tasted again with oxidation, it's even better, more mysterious. The empty glass tells a whole story about an old church with a tropical fruit market in front. Fascinating!"

"Quickly tasted at the 3 Rivières stand at the Rumfest. Very nice rum. The Bourbon breeding comes through a lot with its blond tobacco and nuts, which is not unpleasant, but in the end I preferred the 2005 single cask, which I find more complex and balanced."

"Un échantillon récupéré au Lucerne Rum Festival. Un nez vif avec des fruits, beaucoup de fruits tropicaux, du vieux bois verni et de l’atelier mécanique en arrière plan. La bouche est délicate avec un parfum floral jamais dégusté chez Caroni. Les fruits arrivent avec du melon et ensuite de tes agréables notes pâtissières. Beaucoup d’amplitude. La finale est fraîche et florale, fruitée et gourmande. Un très beau rhum qui m’emmène sur un marché dans un pays tropical avec toutes sortes d’échoppes vendant des fruits, des fleurs et quelques ateliers de réparation mécanique."

Side-by-side with the 2011 ECS, this one has more glue-y notes on the nose alongside the classic FS profile. Similar in the palate: more punch versus the 2011, ie a bit less balance and a little more demanding."

"A rum tasted at Rum Depot in Berlin. The bottle is almost empty. Full Caroni nose, tires, petrol and tar with a surprising but very pleasant freshness. The palate has a clean attack, with notes of machine shop first, then comes the freshness (menthol?) sensed on the nose, fruit last. The finish is a little pale in comparison, with fruit and a woodiness that was barely present before. The empty glass shows a lovely balance between fruit and machine shop. A very fine Caroni, too bad its finish is a little weak."

We are dealing with a rum that I would drink all the time! Velier lately is focusing too much on collectors with the result of making the bottles unobtainable already upon release and overpriced."

"A mild aroma and taste of smoky cask, caramel, chocolate, raisin/red wine and vanilla. Slightly sweet, moderately complex, a little smoky spiciness, but very round and harmonious. A Spanish-style rum that deviates somewhat from the standard and has a strong woody and earthy tobacco character. Until around 2016, this rum was labeled with a port wine finish, after which it was said to have been aged in American and French oak barrels. No idea if the current version still saw port casks, but some red wine is hinted at in the profile."

"Overall as said on the label “A Classic Barbados Rum”. This is a chance to get a Foursquare to a budget price. I tasted it at Herida Brands stand at the Stockholm Beer & Spirits Fair 2023. This Foursquare rum released by Tres Hombres is as most Foursquare rums a blend of Pot- and Column distilled rum from molasses. It’s tropical aged in Barbados in bourbon barrels for 8 years. Thereafter it was loaded at the sailing freighter Tres Hombres in 2022 to be finished in Calvados and Pedro Ximenez barrels for another 5 months at sea before blended and married back in Amsterdam before bottled in 4296 bottles at ABV 41%."

"This nice sipper has to rest for a while before nosing or you'll get a punch of alcoholic blast. The nose is wonderfully smooth even velvety I'd say. Smoky wood and fruity with toffee and spices. The palate is complex and very well balanced with smoky oak and spices and a hint of the cognac cask it was finished in. The finish is long and sweet with spices and coffee and once again a hint of the cognac cask."

In the back i can fint a little coffee. The palate is sweet with fruit, vanilla and light chocolate. The oily palate also offers smoky oak with sherry notes. The finish is medium long with dried fruit and oak with a hint of chocolate. The nose the day after eminating from the glass is lovely."

Am Gaumen wird man schnell von einer unerwarteten, vollen Süße überrascht, welche dann in Würzigkeit und einer angenehmen Wärme abklingt. Die Gumminote aus der Nase verschwindet fast vollständig. "Like most of the Riise range this rum is also kind of sweet. The first release of three XO Founders Reserve. Not a bad rum parse but I would have loved more kick with a higher ABV. Fruity and vegetal with a roasting note to it."

"Though it has a short finish it's still a pretty good rum. I have all of the releases on my shelf and this is the most recent one. Ligh and well balanced rum with a touch of oak and vanilla. In the back i find nuttyness and tobacco. "
