"RumX Awards 2023 and re-tasted 6 months later. Despite its age, the esters are very present without dominating. Buttery, nicely acidic, lemony, overripe banana, grilled bacon and yellow fruit make up a nose that remains balanced despite its complexity. The attack is lively and explosive, with fat (butter) tempering the fire and fruit filling the mouth. Yellow fruit (pear and apple) and young wood. The finish is long, elegant and fresh. No flaws here, everything is clean and precise. The wood is perfectly integrated. The fruit remains right to the end. In the empty glass, you discover an unprecedented sweetness, with the wood clearly perceptible. The favorite rum of this top RumX selection."

Meilleure critique de Jakob :
"Definitely not a straightforward Navy blend. Impressive complexity, much Jamaican influence, the high age is clearly recognizable. Mint, eucalyptus, tropical fruits, wood, spices...impressive! As a lover of complex rums, I feel perfectly picked up here. Definitely not a standard Navyrum because the heavy Guyana notes are almost entirely underrepresented, but that doesn't change the fact that this is an exquisite release. Chapeau!"

"Definitely on par with the predecessor 94 REV from Bellamys. Flavors a little more cassis, more burnt caramel, dark chocolate and rosemary / lavender, as well as dried fig and grapefruit peel. Also very tasty but really hard to say which one I like better!Flavor-wise this one is a bit more intense and has the longer finish due to the more %, but the other one is a bit more complex if you let it and has the nicer nose. Both at eye level!"

"Wow.... Such power after 33 years... no matter how old these Hampdens are, they remain first class! The only fly in the ointment is that the long barrel ageing is now somewhat noticeable. But that's complaining on a high level... I'm thrilled 🤩 Today a small cross comparison with the RA JMC: The TRC is not as intense on the nose as the RA, but is much more incisive and intense on the palate. The RA, on the other hand, is almost soft, but more "drinkable"! They don't give each other much... brilliant Hampden essence"

"It's taken me a while since the actual opening (which I think was the first in the Czech Republic - we wave to alexadr at the castle), but I finally got around to writing a few words about it. I must stress that they are seen through my amateur lens. I like rums with a story, and I generally like it when something is the best. So if Planteray releases their oldest bottling, playing with details like a stopper milled from the cask itself then that's something I'm interested in. Coincidentally, they released the bottle at just the right time to open something really special, so I wiped away a tear at checkout and ordered the bottle. The packaging itself is a big deal, but I think someone has covered it very extensively here recently, so I won't wax poetic again. I just hope it's really beautiful. Let's go get some rum. I'd mention the 35 tropical aging, which will give an expected big load of wood. The color is darker mahogany. The aroma is dominated by fruity, citrus notes, complemented by wood. With time, perhaps chocolate and roasted almonds and coconut. In the mouth it is very oily, pouring a dry, woody coating over the whole palate, and this sensation remains for a very long time. The fruity side goes into the background, I would have expected much more of it. I wouldn't be afraid to compare the sensation to that of AEH 84. I can't leave out the phrase " alcohol perfectly integrated. The finish is dense, pleasantly warm, crushing and very long. And in it the fruit finally reappears. For me, this is a perfect piece, with perhaps only a small gripe about the price tag of this masterpiece."

"Erster Eindruck: Oh yes!!!

"7,8:On the nose we find strawberry, banana, orange, syrupy liquorice, with abundant but balanced spices. We don't necessarily find the brand's typical "Christmas spices", but a more woody, nutty notes. Aeration brings out pastry notes with cookies, sweetness is here. Everything is here, from butter to sweet spices, cereals and nuts. 7,5:The palate matches the nose, sweetness exhibits, with a buttery cookie topped with almonds. Coated with a nice vanilla liqueur, the rum is round, sticky and syrupy. In the background, there's a slight concentration of exotic fruit that carries the whole through to the mid-palate. 7,5:The finish is round, sweet, with a cookie baked with sweet spices and caramelized butter..."

"10.02.2024 tasting event at the Nobilis Warehouse, Haderslev. Retasting and I really love the overall profile. ----------------------- #4232 03.09.2023 this was a nice blind tasting where I saw the black Glencairn tasting glasses for the first time. This is a great release. Intense yet extremely well balanced once rested. ABV and wood are amazingly well integrated. Medium fruity with nice spices and a warm oily palate. Draws really nice and slow moving curtains in the glass. The empty glass has light mint and caramel."

"Viel Marzipan und Lack in der Nase. Am Gaumen unheimlich intensiv und komplex. Leicht säuerlich, würzig und fruchtig. Die 18 Jahre tropische Reifung bringen ein absolutes Top-Release hervor. Eines meiner Highlights auf der Whisky Live Paris 2023."

Meilleure critique de Jakob :
"The high age suits the rum well and brings thanks to the wood influence still a little more vanilla melt from the bourbon barrels. Also overall with recognizable proximity to American whiskies with fresh oak, present spice of pepper, cinnamon and cloves, concise toffee, dried fruit and subtle minerality. Very good Foursquare representative."

"The almost 3 years more in the barrel have done the rum in my opinion very good. Alcohol is almost perfectly integrated. Clearly smoother and quaffable as the two predecessors of RA and in my opinion also more intense typical cookie dough note, plus baking spices, lots of pineapple and banana bread and minimal citrus notes and light roast flavors. Wood is clearly perceived more intense but at no point too much. Probably the best thing CDI has brought out in a long time! And also in the Mai Tai he topped the two RA's again clearly because the additional wood here simply brings more harmony purely. Mega delicious just!"

"Nose is very nice and intense. Lots of fruits and funk to begin with. After some time to breath, spices and some smokiness shows up. Very enjoyable yet demanding given the high ester level. High intensity on the palate as well: lots of fruits and ester notes. A bit of sweetness to balance the overall profile. Still quite lively while the cask took off the harshest edges."

Meilleure critique de Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪 :
"Excellent rum! All elements are in perfect balance, none overpowering the other. On the nose the caramel throws off thinking you will find a sweet flavor, instead the rum comes out slightly bitter and dry. Later in the mouth, toasty, woody, spicy and grape notes are noticeable. The caramel gone, perhaps cocoa or chocolate. The finish is medium long with the persistence of the grape and after that more tobacco, but still all very soft.A rum that given the distillery and aging I would have expected something more!"

"What a beautiful Belize rum! Very powerful, intense, lovely nose with grated coconut, vanilla and dried fruit. Reminds me very much of a good Foursquare rum. Convincing on the palate again: I find all the aromas of the nose again. The alcohol makes quite a lot of steam. Better with water! The aftertaste tends to be slightly toasty. I can say without thinking twice: this is the best Belize I've had in my glass so far. I particularly recommend this rum to those who have previously enjoyed Spanish-style rums and generally as an introduction to rums at cask strength and for experimenting with the addition of water. The price-performance ratio is hard to beat!"

"Smells really intense and delicious of fruit, caramel, vanilla and spices, although a little like solvent, which disappears after a while. Super round. This rum is heavy and strong on its own, but absolutely mild with a little water. Goes down like oil. Unfortunately, I don't get as much chocolate here, but lots of caramel/cream toffee, fruit and spices. The bourbon influence is there. Very round, tasty and complex rum, you can't complain much :-)"

"Ein klassischer New Yarmouth mit herrlich fruchtig frischer Esternase und dem dazugehörigen Keksteig, sowie Marzipan. Am Gaumen anfangs genauso, verliert dann jedoch schnell seine Fruchtigkeit und wechselt auf die würzige Seite. Der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden. Eine weiterer sehr guter NY."

"Tasting in parallel with the Nobilis RX12424. The nose brings typical Guyana REV notes. First and foremost, dried dark fruits, oak, toasted aromas, burnt sugar and malt. The Nobilis seems a tad more intense. On the palate, the roasted notes increase again and dominated the first impression. Gradually, the other components shine through and create a balanced picture. The finish is the most interesting for me because wonderfully spiced plum jam and raisins appear here. Bitterness is also there but within reason. This is the kind of rum I like to enjoy in winter in front of the fireplace. This rum is confusingly similar to the aforementioned Nobilis possibly the alcohol is better integrated in the Rum Club Ed 39."

"Beginning somewhat alcoholic nose... Sherry comes through well makes it more fruity and slightly sweeter in comparison ... After a bit of time in the glass, the spiciness fades a bit and it seems more harmonious ... The sherry cask has done a good job and brings mMn the typical Foursquare character something forward and makes it different (which is very welcome in view of the countless bottlings) prices beyond the 100€ I see as excessive."

Nose: Glue, Oak, Spicy, Vanilla, coconut, trop fruits, dried fruits, raisin Mouth: Warm, Complex, balanced, full bodied, strong, round, trop. fruits, caramel, spicy, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted, tobacco Finish: Medium, tobacco, coconut, sweet, toffee, roasted, cocoa, vanilla, toated, oak, coffee"

Meilleure critique de Dr.Django :
"Today there are two Foursquare: 1. covenant: This one tastes like it looks. Lots of dark fruit, somewhat leathery and dry on the palate. The cask influence is very strong, almost too strong. You have to know what you're getting into, but if you like it, you won't be disappointed. The alcohol is well integrated. Delicious Foursquare that I could imagine really enjoying from time to time! 2nd Absolutio: Awesome piece! There are no surprises on the nose or palate in terms of aromas. Mouth-filling, starts silky and pleasantly oily towards the finish. Pleasantly (dry) woody and chocolaty-fruity, great balance. The finish is very long and offers an interplay between dried fruit wrapped in chocolate and wood. I particularly like rums with these long, great finishes and that's what makes this rum for me! Wonderful, now it's "Hunters must hunt" Many thanks to Schnubbii!"

I like it a lot but I think this one will split the waters a bit. Rest for a long time or add a few drops of water. The tannins are close to taking the first row here ☺️ Nose Intense, balanced, wood, light roasted, berries, faint mint, light caramel, light sherry notes. Palate Lightly oily, balanced, complex, wood, medium roasted, tannins, fruity, light mint, faint caramel. Finish Warm, wood, light roasted, tannins, dried fruit. "Blind Tasting 01.02.2024, 4th rum Nose: Wow, this is a powerhouse that can barely walk on power! But it is so superficially brute that it almost comes across as cheap, the Rummelboxer type. But what does such a coarse type have to do with fine notes of sherry and glue? Obviously a lot here! Palate: Tiieef and dark, but I don't taste any malt or leather, so it's probably not an Enmore on steroids, but what then, a Foursquare? Toni, who is sitting next to me, guesses the Foursquare from Schotman's (RX13210). Yes, it clicks for me too, that must be it! Solution: Surprise! Not Schotman's, but even better: Tres Hombres - with an Oloroso finish! I really like it. 2nd place out of 8 blind-tasted rums that evening."

"I have The Duchess in my glass alongside the new Rumclub Ten Cane from 2008. My first impression is that the two rums form the poles of the spectrum of the 2008 Vintage's profile. The Duchess is super dark in the glass, bringing a deep berry flavor and dark spices. The Rumclub is much lighter - a few shades lighter in color. Aromatically, this Ten Cane is closer to some TDLs: peach, almond, ginger. There are also similarities, but I find it difficult to describe them - most likely in the woodiness, the spiciness - a rather opposing Trinidad style? The differences outweigh the differences for me. I would always consider the Rumclub to be a TDL - I even find the characteristic mint. But the agricole notes of the Duchess are missing. I'm not sure if I'm completely off the mark here, but this smells like a TDL. I can't get off this horse: Peach mint iced tea in the mouth. The finish is long, smooth and full of peach menthol. Well ok, I think it's clear what I'm trying to say. At the end of this review, I no longer believe that these are two poles of a vintage, but two completely different distilleries. The rum is still very tasty. Roughly on a par with the 2009 TDLs. I poured myself an old sample of an RdL Ten Canes and the new 2008 Swell TDL. The similarities to the TDL are very great here, the differences to the RdL Ten Cane not so pronounced. This calls for a second round, preferably blind."

"Already in the nose waits a very own green note, reminiscent of tart herbs and unripe vegetables. On the palate more balanced, tea, wood, fennel, spices - thereby overall extremely dry and thus rather on the tart side. Even if the Bellevue DNA remains recognizable, it is a rather unusual representative of the 98 batch with a clear impact on the herbaceous-green side."

"What a board! This is probably the most quaffable and at the same time the oldest Australian I have drunk so far... Incredibly intense after peach iced tea, apricot compote and mirabelle jam with vanilla, peach brandy in a wooden barrel (like the gölles I have), surprisingly little wood notes, some floral honey, jasmine tea, croissant with bitter orange jam and just extremely delicious and a surprisingly long finish. The alcohol content is also extremely well integrated.... In short: I'm just blown away by this Australian!😍 I really would not have expected!🐨 Am glad that I got me 2 bottles!"
