"#4206 Wow, this is a bomb of flavours. I rested it for 30 minutes before giving it a go because it's pretty powerful when poured. Pretty fresh and intense with fruits and light wood and spice. I like the light smoky and marzipan note in the profile. The palate is dry and warm and pretty well balanced. The empty glass has some light coconut and nutty notes."

"Very nicely balanced on the nose. This one is less minty but more fruits forward with some herbs and notes from the oak casks. Well balanced in the palate as well. Fruit forwards with mint and wood. Less dirty than some of the other bottlings. Slightly behind the top notch 2001 bottlings for me due to a little rougher edges on the palate. Still very nice overall."

"Very nice on the nose. This feels very mature (in a positive way) with lots of wood, chocolate and hints of coconuts. Those notes are accompanied by lots of ripe and dried fruits and some herbs (a hint of menthol?). The fruit notes are rather intense making this the best MG nose I experienced so far. Lots of wood on the palate without being to dry or bitter. Dark choclate and some dried fruits show up to the party. Nice. This one needs quite some time to breath to fully open up but delivers a very nice MG expression."

"After the discovery of the live whisky, which had thrilled me, I took the time to taste it again this evening. I'm still very impressed. A great ITP, especially on the nose. I really love this nose. Superb balance between fruit, wood and a gourmand side. On the palate, the woodiness tends to be a little too present, through a little bitterness that quickly blurs the fruitier aromas of the beginning. Too bad, but it's still a great rum. Another very fine plantation release in the top-range Jamaican range, at a price that's not at all unreasonable today for 20 years of age."

Palate Round, sugarcane, spicy, medium dry, balanced, light floral, vegetal, citrus. Finish Medium to long, dry, citrus, spicy, light floral. The empty glass has some light nutty and faint rubber notes. I know this rum is meant for mixing but it makes a darn good sipper as well."

"Bought this Rhum Neisson Blanc from Catawiki a few months ago. The distillery is owned by the Neisson family since its foundation in 1932. They uses fresh sugar cane juice from locally grown cane. After a quite long fermentation it’s distilled in a French Savalle column still installed 1938. Overall a great Agricole Blanc that’s very good neat, but a little weak in a Ti Punch."

The palate attacks quite strongly, then quickly fruits, diesel and the same metallic side as on the nose. The finish is on wood and a light menthol that refreshes, it's long and the notes of machine shop arrive in force with wintergreen. A Caroni of fruit and freshness."

"It is rare, far too rare, to discover a diamond among pebbles. And if it happens by chance, it's all the more incredible. But it actually happened with this rum! I'm still blown away. The rum already promises a lot on the nose and reminds me of an old Demerara. So tempting that I can't wait to taste it. Very fruity on the palate, overripe blackcurrants? The alcohol is more perfectly integrated than I have ever experienced with any other rum. The maximum has really been extracted from the 47% vol. The only small drawback: a slight lack of depth and intensity due to the low ABV. But such a small "impurity" is easy to get over with such a fine diamond, isn't it? Top rum under the radar. Update 2023-10-06: The rum remains a top product for me, but has found its champion in the Savoir Faire 2009 with 60% (RX2744). Update 2023-10-18: Tasting again against the RX2744, this time direct. And I have to say that a direct comparison is really enlightening - and doesn't end well for the Emotion 1969 ... It seems like the league leader of the 2nd division playing at the top level in its class against a Champions League team ... 🙄 Try it out and you'll find it confirmed. RumX Advent calendar 09.12.2023 (blind tasting) I wrote in the appropriate place before solving the puzzle: Yes, on the nose I'm also more with FS, although what's amazing here is that you really perceive zero alcohol! A completely different rum on the palate: Not warm-caramel like on the nose, but clearly red-fruity and a little spicy. And what do I always associate with red fruit? That's right, Mauritius! :blush: Since this rum is not an alcohol monster, but rather under 50% vol. I'm guessing RX2495. Of course, it could also be another New Grove from Grays with around 45% vol. as there are still a few around ... Or maybe even a TDL. In any case, I like the rum very much. :yum::yum::yum:"

"I prefer the Pagos 2023 over the last years edition. This has more „Hampden“ power and the Sherry barrel is integrated much better (due the change of the barrels… maybe?) and the sherry stays more in the background like a faithful campanion and fit perfect with the Hampden flavours. Grilled pineapple meets sour cherries overwhelmed by esters 🤤🥃 The alcohol is very present, i would say typical for a young Hampden."

"Retasting this one I admit that I would really have loved this rum to have a higher ABV because I think it would have greatly benefitted the rum. The nose is very fruity with burnt sugar and some grass to it (lile in a Jamaican rum). The palate is wonderful and has a bite on top of the fruity/spicy note. A lot of nice oak but not too much. The finish is long and slightly bitter with oak and ginger."

"06.10.2023 retasting between 2021 - 2022 - 2023 and it lost a few points. ------ Now we have 3 great Black Tot releases. The 50th Anniversary, Master Blender 2021 and Master Blender 2022 and I like them all. They're also scored pretty closely to each other by me. The releases are really close to each other so the day decides which one wins. I like the darkness of it with smoky wood and warm palate as well as the long finish. I was very surprised at the final result when sipping this one at the German Rum Fest and I will have a few bottles when accessible."

"On The Rocks: On the mose mild mixture of alcohol, fruit, floral, spice and woody notes. It smells gentle and very well balanced. Taste hits you fast with a strong punch of spice and alcohol with medium length burn and a solid sweet oak presence. Finish is long with slowly fading honey sweetness and mild fruits. This rum lures you in with a gentle aroma but then hits you hard on the taste. It is a nice complex rum that is very enjoyable as a sipper. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose spells like Pepsi Zero. Taste is mild sweetness with a slight bitterness. Finish is short but nice. Overall mixed really washes out the complexity of this rum. Suggest it be enjoyed on the rocks as a sipper."

"Als CubaLibre sehr lecker, aber leider ist der Preis ein wenig zu hoch angesetzt. Edit: Zum großen Crosstasting der Velier Abfüllungen haben sich noch der Swell und der Barbados 2006 Flag Series mit dazu geschmuggelt. Leider war es bis jetzt noch nicht möglich ein Sample vom 70th. zu bekommen. Im allgemeinen ist zu sagen dass es im Blindflug keine großen Unterschiede an der Nase gab. Beim Geschmack selber sind jedoch Unterschiede erkennbar. Nach meiner Meinung fallen aber drei deutlich aus der Reihe und bilden mit Abstand das Schlusslicht dieser war es aber nicht. Erster Eindruck 8,7 Auführliche Verkostung folgt Edit: sehr toller Vertreter von Foursquare. Ein Crosstasting, natürlich blind, werde ich demnächst mit den Abfüllungen von Velier noch machen. Aber ich wage die Prognose, dass er sich mehr als gut gegen diese schlagen kann."

We are dealing with a rum that I would drink all the time! I do not understand all these new versions of Hampden Velier that I find little different from each other and especially pòco justified in terms of value for money. Velier lately is focusing too much on collectors with the result of making the bottles unobtainable already upon release and overpriced."

"Je n'etais pas fan de la gamme papalin jusqu'a présent. Mais la velier nous sort un très bon réunionnais a un prix sympa. Il représente parfaitement les rhums trad qu'on y trouve avec ce coté fruité du grand arôme, présent mais pas trop. Ça se boit bien, c'est agréable, végétal, floral, boisé et fruité. Une belle réussite. Au final c'est ce que j'attendais du Le Must de chez savanna qui ne met pas assez le fruité du grand arôme en valeur. Ici c'est le cas."

An explosion of fruit on the palate too, with varnish aromas adding a little depth. The finish is too short and the fruit disappears too quickly. A pleasant, easy-drinking rum that also brings a certain complexity."

"Eh bien, ça ne rigole pas avec ce Longueteau ! C’est une sacrée puissance de frappe qui se dévoile avec un nez nerveux, tendu sur les agrumes, la canne et les arômes agricoles classiques (verdure végétale, notes florales, herbe) et les épices poivrées qui frémissent et trépignent d’impatience dans les narines. On sent qu’il y en a sous le capot. Le résultat ne se fait pas attendre : si les premières secondes se veulent étonnamment suaves avec le vesou, la déflagration vient bel et bien imprégner la bouche d’une chaleur intense et épicée. Le produit brut à l’état pur. Les saveurs sont très prégnantes, même sur une nano-gorgée : les agrumes (citron) et la verdure sont très puissants. Un profil à approcher avec précaution et parcimonie. La finale ne fait pas exception : elle est sèche, puissante, intensément agricole mais vite contrebalancée par une brûlure d’alcool. Le piment, le citron et les zestes d’orange se partage un palais anesthésié pour lui redonner un peu de saveurs. Un rhum à aborder avec précaution pour éviter le depucelage buccale."

"Nose starts of rather harsh but with some time to breath develops a nice basket of continental fruits, intermingling with some classic „Clarendon herbs“, spices and notes of glue. I‘d be interested to get some info on continental vs. tropical aging on this one. For me the nose displays a continent Clarendon profile at least 🤔 On the palate better balanced then I‘ve expected. Citrus notes, vanilla, some wood and sweetness. Lemon macarons! Best out of the 2010 EMBs so far for me."

"Clairement pas le rhum avec lequel débuter une dégustation, sous peine de voir son palais anesthésié. Le nez annonce la couleur avec une forte présence d’alcool et des notes de verdure sur la canne, les herbes et le tabac, avant que les agrumes n’apportent de la rondeur. Le piment et le boisé viennent donnent un peu de complexité olfactive, mais le profil ne plaisante pas avec nous. L’attaque en bouche relève d’un style plutôt hardcore. On dirait qu’une bombe liquide a explosé au palais et a rasé tout ce qui se trouvait sur son passage. Les très fortes notes d’épices sur le piment et le gingembre accentuent la chaleur, qui a éclipsé les fruits. Il lui faut beaucoup de temps pour se libérer et s’exprimer sans risquer la déflagration. La finale, tout aussi extrême, se veut de facto très longue et s’apparente à un souffle ardent et épicé. Les notes herbacées viennent apporter un peu de fraîcheur qui adoucit un centième de la puissance réelle. Étonnant que le logo « inflammable » ne soit pas sur l’étiquette, c’est clairement un rhum à manier avec précaution. Toutefois, le prix déjà élevé devrait dissuader les quelques téméraires qui s’y risquerait."

"#4243 08.09.2023 I got 6 secret samples from a friend as a blind tasting and that has been a lot of fun spread over two evenings. The price tag on this rum is very good compared to what you get. Fresh and fruity with nice cane and pretty good Agricole notes. The palate is almost oily and spictmy/warm and lightly dry. Medium to long finish. The empty glass is nice and has some orange and flower notes."

"Un Longueteau constitué de canne bleu, dont on ressent tous les arômes et l’élégance au nez. Les fruits exotiques et les agrumes se dévoilent avec une touche de marmelade très gourmande, on ressent une influence saline et iodée qui se démarque du reste du profil, à la fois complet et savoureux. L’attaque en bouche est délicate et sensuelle. La fraîcheur de la canne à sucre et de l’herbe coupée, les agrumes et les fruits exotiques se partagent le palais avant que le poivre ne fasse son entrée pour donner un peu de vivacité. Le côté marin ressort toujours en bouche. L’alcool est bien intégré. La finale est longue, sur la canne confite, les agrumes (zeste de citron), l’iode, le sel et les notes terreuses, florales et végétales. Ce rhum parcellaire a l’avantage par rapport à son frère de la parcelle n°1 avec ses arômes plus distincts, mais on retrouve dans l’ensemble un rhum d’une belle rondeur, élégant et très abordable."

"Edit: Tried it again in a freestyle tiki, it's definitely a lot better there, so it's been adjusted upwards a little. How should I start? Blindly, I wouldn't guess Barbados but Jamaica. Gives a nice ester taste. But what I personally find annoying is that I have such a sugar taste on my lips afterwards. Unfortunately, this makes it too sweet for me, more like a liqueur, spiced rum or definitely with dosage. Even though it's not supposed to have any dosage. "Hard to describe. Reminds me somehow of sambuca or ouzo because of the licorice and anise / fennel notes. Overall rather sweet salty and slightly bitter. Alcohol is not particularly disturbing but the basic flavor is just not my thing. In ti punch then something like pear and fig comes to the fore, as well as salty peanuts. Quite nice but I do not have to have again."

"Au nez, c’est plus expressif et plein que le Prélude (ce n’était pas très dur en soit). On retrouve le profil épicé-poivré-vanillé du prélude. Mais c’est plus frais avec du fruité citronné et de la menthe. Cela donne vraiment plus d’envie à la dégustation que le prélude. L’attaque en bouche est douce et équilibrée. On retrouve le poivré du nez, du boisé et des fruits secs. C’est plus gourmand. La finale est moyennement longue sur le poivré. Ce Symphonie est bien meilleur que le Prélude. Mais il n’empêche que nous sommes encore loin d’un vrai bon agricole comme on les aiment."

"A well-crafted, well-structured aged rum. The nose, with its minty, vegetal freshness, woody notes and dried and nutty fruits, is slightly lifted by sweet spices for a harmonious, pleasing whole. On the palate, the attack is darker, carried by wood, leather, spices and toasted, toasted notes. A touch of dried fruit and an agricultural, vegetal influence form the background. The result is a fairly dry rum with a nice roundness, easily approachable and gourmet. The finish, of decent length, displays the sweetness of cane and fruit, the dryness of wood and spices, and the roundness of floral notes. A very respectable entry-level rum offering a profile that's both easy-drinking and evolving."

"Overall a very interesting rum from Foursquare which is partly reminiscent of white Jamaica rum and Rivers Antoine. My good friend Björn “Romsoffan” offered me a glass of this somehow different Foursquare at Foursquare Appreciation Day, released by Habitation Velier. It’s what Richard Seale call, a Long Fermentation Type (LFT). It’s a Pot Still from both molasses and cane juice with Esters 555 gr/hlpa, which is the same level as HLCF from Jamaica."
