"The best sweet Spanish styled I’ve ever tasted and of course it is from Panama which seems to be my favorite country of origin when it comes to sweet Spanish rum. Hard to see that any other should beat it."

"This is the best Diplomatico there is out there. The Single Vintages is also OK but can’t really compete, but I don’t think it’s really living up to the high price, but still a must have at my Spanish shelf. Picture: My Diplomatico shelf by moment."

"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the fourth one of the six. Another great surprise beating the Perpetual by one point. This rum is almost perfectly balanced in the spice and sweetness and a pretty complex one as well. Like pure silk when it passes down your throat. Price to quality is very good on this one as well. "

"Delicious and a lot of tropical fruit. Vanilla is coming through in this one and it sticks for a while.A super rum to sit and sip with your friends.A very good beginners rum in my mind,"

"Got a sample of this in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. The Abuelo XV Oloroso is 15 years old and is first matured in American oak casks to be finished in Oloroso Sherry casks. Overall it’s very sweet, natural or not, read somewhere that a hydrometer test gave 44 gpl. The finish is medium long. "

Meilleure critique de Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰 :
"Retasting this one as a dessert rum and it does well at that. This is a very sweet rum in my mind and you could use it for dessert actually. Again a solera blend of rums aging from 15 to 20 years."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"With a beautiful label and a fantastic story around “Nelson’s Blood” it’s a pity that it’s not produced anymore. I really hope it will come back, hopefully in a Navy strength version cause that would balance the sweetness in a good way."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"I’m not a big fan of the Spanish styled Ron, but I like the Rare Proof series from Malecon. I believe it depends on the rich taste and that the sweetness is very good balanced with the quite high ABV. This one isn’t the best of them, but certainly a very good one anyway."

"This is a medium priced rum and they did pretty well. A very flavourful rum with lots of wooden notes and fruit. Not too sweet, but nicely balanced and medium complexity. Price to quality is very good. "

Meilleure critique de Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰 :
"I think this is a very under rated rum. It's in the cheaper end yet its complexity is very convincing. A wonderful sweet, fruity and spice nose going into a complex well balanced heavy palate. The finish is long, a bit sweet and has a nice peppery sting to it. Price to quality is very good. "

Meilleure critique de Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪 :
"A rum between Spanish, French and English thanks to a hybrid distillation. Well balanced and not too intense with a pleasant caramel and never cloying thanks also to the barrel/oak aroma with a coffee, chocolate and lychee/mango finish giving it depth. Medium-long finish."

"Got this sample in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. It’s produced from molasses in a multi column still whereafter it’s aged in Jack Daniel’s barrels using the Solera method. The oldest drops is said to be 30yo. Overall it’s very smooth but a little too sweet for me (hydrometer tests I’ve read indicates 27gpl of sugar), I should probably liked it even more with a little higher ABV which should balance the sweetness."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"This is the Zacapa I like best. I think it’s better than both the “23” and the “Royal”. It’s more powerful and had a deeper taste. It’s also well balanced, smooth and len."

"Retasting and leaving the original note 😊 This is a pretty reasonable rum that could do well for deserts in my mind. The nose starts out with sweet caramel and fruits followed with vanilla and light wood. Tha palate is lightly dry with fruit, caramel and spices. The lightly dry palate also serves up ginger nuts and tobacco with some oak. The finish is medium long with oak and raisin followed by licorice and some tobacco. Price to quality is kind of OK thinking that this is an anniversary release."

"I love that they have reduced the sugar content to near zero. This has improved the quality of this rum a lot. Nice and fruity with spices and a warm palate. Draws nice curtains and the empty glass is really nice."

Meilleure critique de Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰 :
"This is one of the 3 releases of the XV and it's pretty good actually. The nose starts off with a lot of caramel, in a good way, then goes into candied fruits wit some oakiness to it. The palate continues with the fruits and some leather and spices. The Port cask is definitely there and I like it. The finish is medium to long, astringent with vanilla and sweetness to it. Price to quality is good. "

"Whisky & Rom Festival 2023 28.10.2023 Another retaste and it still performs pretty well. Price to quality is pretty good. ------------------------- This is a very nice and easy sipping rum from Mount Gay. A typical Bajan rum in nose and palate. The nose is elegant with spice, a bit of orange and charred barrel. The palate starts off with a bit of sweetness, spicy and a bit dry. There is some leather and earthyness to it as well. The finish is medium long, dry and with charred oak and ginger. Again a tiny bit of earthyness on the way out."

"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first third of the six. This was a really nice surprise. A much netter rum than I expected, a nice complex rum with a hint of vanilla in the back. Very well balanced and a delight. Sweet but not too sweet unless you like dry or Agricole style rums. Price to quality is very good. "

Meilleure critique de Tim :
"A visit to the Takamaka distillery is worthwhile! During the pandemic, the distillery has built up a second mainstay alongside its high-quality pot still made from fresh sugar cane juice from the Seychelles in very small quantities with a triple column still that works with molasses from abroad (Mauritius). This enables continuous production in large quantities, serving the cocktail and beginner segment. The triple distillation process produces a very neutral rum, which is then infused with flavors (e.g. fruit essences, cinnamon, vanilla, sometimes also with coloring and sugar). This rum stands out in this segment as it is aged in a special process using wood fibers from a bourbon barrel."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"I rated the precursor, the “Old Cask 1703”, quite low, probably because it was my first contact with English styled rum. Now I appreciate this rum a lot and I will probably upgrade my rating of the “Old Cask 1703” if I make a retest."

"This is one of the better Malteco rums. A wonderful oak and spice nose going into a nice palate with spices and tropical fruits. Medium to long finish with oak and spices. A bit expensive even if it's in a nice box. "

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"A little too weak in my opinion except for the tobacco taste, but despite that fruits, oak and some spiciness is recognizable in the nose and flavors of fruits, chocolate, vanilla and spices as well at the palate."

"The tasted one here is from batch 002. Have also a bottle from batch 001, unopened. I tasted it the first time during my vacation in Antigua down at a restaurant in Falmouth Harbour. Thought that the nose was great, but the nose of the port version is even better. But nevertheless this is a great rum, well worth trying, that’s very complex and has a great finish."

Meilleure critique de Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰 :
"Retasting and it did lose some points 😊 ------- This one concludes this week's tastings. Angostura has done it again. Another great rum and this one is a tad better than their 12 year old. This one was blended by John George's and he did a really good job. After blending it matured for 15 years in oak and you can taste that oak. A fruity well balanced rum with a long and full bodied finish."
98
Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"It’s distilled in Coffey and Pot stills and then first aged separately before blended and aged for three more years. Total aging is six to eleven years.I think it’s a little bit better than their classic Reserve. In the front of the mouth it doesn’t taste very much, but when you swallow it all flavors arrive and stays there trough the rather long finish."

"Leckeres Teil, hätte ich nicht erwartet. Ein schöner Vanille- und Honigduft in der Nase, geht dann im Gaumen so weiter. Hat eine leichte Süsse, welche vollkommen ok ist und schmeckt auch etwas rauchig. Lecker."

Meilleure critique de MarcT :
"Got this as a present for Christmas, never reviewed it. Strange! To the nose it reminds me of a sweet and sour, think sirupy Marmelade, of the sort I would like to have on my toast, right now. On the tongue, it's more of the same, more wood. Unfortunately is a bit watery, due to the low ABV, but does also gjve a long and heavy mouthfeel. What that would have been at a higher ABV. In the end there is a bit freshness as well... Mint perhaps? It's faint. It must be said, however, that this bottle has been open for quite some time now, and thus had lots time to breathe. The Rum is well made, for the mainstream market obviously, but makes a nice uncomplicated drink by the side. Enjoy! I finished this bottle now, and found that time did not do it well on the end. It got a bit watery in taste, which makes me subtract a point."

"The tasted one is from batch 002. Have also a bottle from batch 001, but haven’t tasted it yet. My guide during my visit at the distillery told me that they’re most pleased with the Port Cask Finish, of the three, in batch 002. I’ll drink to that! It has a fantastic nose and the taste is very distinct with great flavors and a very pleasant finish."

"Deutlich besser als ich mir einen Rum von einem Abfüller, der sonst nur für billigen Fruchtlikör bekannt ist, vorgestellt hätte. Angenehm fruchtige und insgesamt leichte Noten. Scheint recht jung zu sein und etwas nachgezuckert."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"Most people wants to find rum with good value for money. Well, here it is. It’s very hard to find anything better for this amount of money. The only one I found is the English Harbour 5yo. It’s a blend of separately aged rums in ex-Bourbon barrels distilled from Coffey and pot stills. After blended it’s aged for six months more in oak vats. The average age of the blend is 5 years. There’s really something special with its flavours and nice afterburn. After what I have heard it’s the most consumed rum in St. Lucia. So it can’t be more karibik. This is a very good everyday rum to a very low price."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"One of the better Spanish styled “Ron”. It’s well balanced, smooth and not as sweet as most of the “Ron’s”. The nose is fruity and smoky as well as at the palate together with vanilla. Unfortunately is the finish much too short."

Meilleure critique de Godspeed :
"I’m going through my cocktail rums and this is one of my more recent acquisitions. It’s one of the go-to rum for haute cocktail bar Death & Company and I can see why. Great price, surprisingly complex flavor from the mix of 7 nation sources (mostly english style). Highly recommended assuming you can get it for under 30 euros. Not terrible as a sipper but straight up great as a cocktail rum."

"Got a sample of this rum from the RR Tasting Club. Coruba is a blended pot still as well as column still rum distilled and matured by Wray & Nephew, whereafter it’s sent to Switzerland for blending, some more maturation and filling. Overall an strong, potent and full bodied rum that’s remarkable smooth and mild at the same time."

Meilleure critique de Vincent D :
"Unfortunately, this Botran 18 no longer has the gourmandise of my discovery of sweet, caramelized ron. It's pleasant. But it's sorely lacking in depth. At least it's not too sweet. Edit: tasted after a Rum Nation Panama and in fact it easily compares. Less sweet, more woody."

Meilleure critique de rum_sk :
"Revisiting: Nose is sweet, mostly vanilla with hints of plumes and raisins and you get the same in the taste where plumes are dominant. The rum is fairly sweet but not in a bad way actually this is balanced really well. Finish is medium long. As a matter of fact I have not tasted bad rum from AM to this day. Of course, they add sugar to most, if not all rums, but honestly, and eventhough some of their bottles are way too sweet, this one along with reserva 1863 are well balanced and I truly like it a lot. Initial score 74 downgraded to 71. Still a nice rum. Downgrading again, it is very dull in taste in comparison with other in the same brand."

Meilleure critique de Joachim Guger :
"The nose is very good for a starter rum. Oak, tobacco, fruit and then polish. Very well balanced. In the mouth then disappointment. Woody, one dimensional and thin. The alcohol stings. As I said, a good introduction to unsweetened rum."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"The molasses comes from Dom. Rep. and Guyana. After distillation it’s aged in former bourbon and Tennessee whiskey barrels between five and eight years before blended and bottled. In my opinion is this an outstanding everyday rum, especially when taking the price into account."

"Gut trinkbater Süßrum. An der Nase Kokos und etwas weihnachtliche Gewürze. Am Gaumen ziemlich süß, Fasswürze und wieder viel Kokos. Aber eher künstlich. Kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass da nicht aromatisiert wurde. Das leere Glas reicht nach einer Weile toll nach Pfirsich"

"Got a sample of this rum from RR Tasting Club some time ago. Compagnie des Indes Caraibes is a blend of rums from Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad. The color is quite pale and I haven’t found anything about aging, but I suppose it’s a quite young rum. I don’t recognize rum from Guyana or Barbados in the blend, so I suppose it’s mostly rum from Trinidad in the blend. Overall it’s too bland for my taste and nothing to write home about."

Meilleure critique de Stefan Persson :
"This is the third Rock Band rum I’ve tasted, after Motörhead and Kizz, and the best one so far. The Rum, bottled by Danish 1423, is aged for up to twelve years in former bourbon barrels and bottled at ABV 40%. It’s a blend of rum from Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad. By using pot still rum from Jamaica and Guyana and column still rum from Trinidad they’ve built up a well balanced rum with a strong aroma and a lot of character. The aroma, the taste and the quite long finish is strong and full-bodied. I recognize fruits, pepper, some burnt tones as well as some oak."

"Overall an OK quite tasty, mostly fruity, unaged rum. A good friend offered me a glass of this rum brought home from the Seychelles by his daughter. The brand Takamaka is produced in Seychelles at the Trois Frères Distillery distillery and this one was distilled in 2022 and bottled at ABV 43%."

Meilleure critique de LukaŽiga :
"Vanilla/caramel voyage 6,5:On the nose, you'll find the whole Spanish style, inviting, suave and rounded. Vanilla and caramel woodiness are omnipresent. It's distributed here with enough force to make this rum a great tasting experience. We don't fall into the sugar trap and enjoy the toasted coconut and nuts that complete the profile. Airing brings out the sweet vanilla to the fore, having carried off a raw, white wood .Some sweet spices can also be noticed. 6,5:The palate confirms that this is a rather serious rum, but not very complex, which has not come to flatter the sweetest palates. There's that typical, sophisticated woodiness, with a little bite, a little sweetness, metallic, balance in short. The texture is fairly light, with no intention of overpowering, but simply satisfying, with that lovely toasted coconut and sweet spices. Some bitter sting arises time to time. 6,2:The finish leaves an impression of tasty wood and a veil of tobacco, a possible invitation to Cohiba."

Meilleure critique de Henry Davies :
"Rating it for what it is - a mixing basic white rum. With that lens it feels a bit underwhelming with the sub 40% ABV. That aside it does the job, the nose is super industrial with ethanol and alcohol notes but it gets better from there. The mouth is smooth with butter and caramel elements. A surprisingly light and non offensive finish"
